Mechanical Properties

· A generic stress/strain curve for a ductile material is shown.
· The material behaves in an Elastic manner for the stress/strain range below (σ_y, ε_y) after which plastic deformation begins.
· Sample plastic deformation is uniform up to the ultimate tensile stress point (σ_TS, ε_TS) . In this stage:
A_i L_i = A₀L₀ .
· Neck formation starts at M, and sample Fracture occurs at (σ_F, ε_F)
