Shear Modulus, Bulk Modulus

· Other Elastic Constants can be defined in terms of other modes of material deformation. The constitutive equations (stress/strain relationships) for these deformation modes are also linear and have a Hookian form.
· For a material loaded in pure shear, the linear elastic relationship is: τ = G γ
where G is the Shear modulus, and the shear strain,
γ = tan θ = {w/L}
· For a material subjected to a uniform hydrostatic pressure, p, the linear elastic relationship becomes:
p = K (ΔV/V)
where K is the Bulk modulus.
