Mechanical Properties

· Non-isotropic materials are also of technical importance.
· Single crystals have physical properties with the same symmetry as their lattice structure and their elastic constants will be direction dependent.
· Rolled or directionally solidified materials have grains aligned with the rolling or solidification axis and this influences their elastic properties. A nickel sample is shown

· Composite materials may be engineered with anisotropic properties.
