Mechanical Properties
· This clip shows another Buckeytube being struck by a Buckeyball, a C60 molecule. Upon striking the tube the molecule deforms it elastically and bounces off. The cross-section diagram shows the elastic modes excited in the tube.

· Tubes are also found to have more than one layer of carbon atoms. The second part of the clip shows a two layer tube being struck by the same ball. The carbon atoms interact through their interatomic potential, covalent within the layers and van der Waals between the layers. Both longitudinal and circumferential elastic waves can be seen propagating in the tubes.
