Professor Teiser teaches courses in the study of religion, Chinese religions,
and Buddhist studies. He regularly teaches one of the two courses required
for Ph.D. students in Religion, REL 501: Religion and the Tradition of Social
Theory, an intensive reading of the classic thinkers (Marx, Weber, Durkheim)
and their modern successors in the structuralist and post-structuralist
interpretation of religion. At the graduate level he teaches courses in the
primary texts of Chinese Buddhism, Dunhuang materials, and artistic sources.
Prospective graduate students are encouraged to contact Professor Teiser directly
by e-mail after reading the on-line description of the graduate program in the
Department of Religion and surveying the scholarship of departmental faculty.
His undergraduate courses include an introduction to Buddhist literature
(REL 229: Great Books in Buddhism) and Chinese religions (REL 226).
