UPDATE: Gas leak capped at Lawrence Apartments Building 10

About 30 people were evacuated from Building 10 of the Lawrence Apartments for a little more than an hour this morning because gas leaked from a dryer.

The leak was reported about 8:35 a.m. The leak was stopped and residents were allowed back inside about 9:45 a.m.

The Princeton Fire Department, Princeton First Aid Squad and Princeton University Department of Public Safety responded.

Building 10 was the only structure affected, and no one was hurt.

Lawrence Apartments are on Lawrence Drive, off Alexander Street south of campus.

Firefighters were called to the Frist Campus Center at Princeton University early Saturday morning, Feb. 24, and put out a fire in the basement.

Lawrence Apartments building evacuated due to odor of gas .

Shortly before 10 a.m. the Princeton Fire Department responded to a report of the odor of gas at Lawrence Apartments. A resident in one of the buildings reported the odor to University staff, who notified the Fire Department after detecting gas levels. Four individuals were evacuated. No injuries were reported. PSE&G has been notified and is responding.

Vehicular and pedestrian traffic was diverted off Washington Road between Ivy Lane and Prospect Avenue as a PS&G crew works to stop a natural gas leak near Frist Campus Center.

Buildings cleared after gas leak capped .

A backhoe struck a gas line south of the University's McCosh Health Center shortly before 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, prompting an evacuation of about 500 people from 11 buildings in the immediate area. 

University employees join fire department in pilot program .

On the morning of Oct. 7, the Princeton Fire Department sent out a call -- firefighters were needed to respond to an alarm at 1 Monument Drive. Four University employees -- Bob Allen, Michael Christensen, Michael Kervan and Chris Machusak -- rushed to a University building on Alexander Road to pull on their fire jackets, fire pants, boots and helmets.

University volunteer firefighters help campus and community .

The Princeton Fire Department Associate Member Program allows Princeton University employees to volunteer with the Princeton Fire Department during their work shifts, augmenting the municipality's volunteer ranks during critical daytime hours. The partnership has greatly benefited the Princeton campus and greater community during the past three-plus years.
