PPPL to phase out compact stellarator experiment, upgrade spherical torus program

The Princeton Plasma Physics Lab (PPPL) will phase out construction of the National Compact Stellarator Experiment (NCSX) and instead ensure the lab’s future as a world-leading center of fusion energy and plasma sciences by enhancing its flagship program, the National Spherical Torus Experiment (NSTX). The new approach is being implemented at the direction of the U.S. Department of Energy, which funds the lab managed by the University.
