Commencement 2009

Commencement events planned for June 1-2

University activities for undergraduate and graduate degree candidates and their families are set for Monday and Tuesday, June 1-2:

  • The Class Day ceremony for seniors is set for 10:30 a.m. June 1 on Cannon Green (Jadwin Gym in case of severe weather). The keynote speaker will be “CBS Evening News” anchor and managing editor Katie Couric.
  • The Hooding ceremony for advanced degree candidates will begin at 5 p.m. June 1 in McCarter Theatre. President Tilghman and Graduate School Dean William Russel will preside.
  • The University’s 262nd Commencement ceremony is slated for 11 a.m. June 2 on the lawn in front of Nassau Hall (Jadwin Gym in case of severe weather). Tilghman will preside and address the graduates.

Admission to all events is by ticket only. The Class Day ceremony will be simulcast in McCosh 10 and 50; no tickets are required at the simulcast site. The Hooding ceremony will be simulcast in Dodds Auditorium, Robertson Hall; tickets are required at the simulcast site. Commencement will be simulcast in Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall; no tickets are required at the simulcast site.

The Hooding and Commencement ceremonies will be broadcast live on TigerNet Channel 7 on campus and on Channel 27 on Princeton cable television. They also will be webcast live at www.princeton.edu/WebMedia/ and will be archived for later viewing at the same site.

To ease traffic congestion, some University employees are being asked to park in alternate lots on Monday and Tuesday. Employees who do not perform essential services for Commencement will be permitted to leave work at 2 p.m. Tuesday with supervisory approval.
