Hydrogen Safety
As described in detail here, video records are presented below of sample tests that demonstrate, experimentally, the spontaneous ignition of pressurized H2 releases. (Quicktime player is needed)
Further tests have been conducted and to support the experimental observations fully-coupled, transient numerical simulations with detailed chemical kinetics and diffusive transport have been performed using an in-house code (A-SURF: Adaptive Simulation of Unsteady Reacting Flow) in order to investigate a wide range of initial parameters and geometry effects. Preliminary results have been shown recently and some sample movies of the experimental and numerical tests follow: Numerical (1 MB); Experimental (1 MB).
