Results Processed

ANSYS outputs results in either an element-wise or node-wise manner dependent on the results type. This interface program will transfer both types of results.

Element-wise Results

Element-wise result output is requested from the ANSYS program using the 'OUTRES' command in the ANSYS input file.

ANSYS Results FEMVIEW Results

Integration Points GAUSSIAN

Nodes ELEMENTAL

Appendix B contains a list of all the ANSYS element-wise results that can be processed by the interface program. The attribute and component names allocated to the results for use within FEMVIEW are also listed.

It should be noted that ANSYS element-wise results in the result file may be either integration point values extrapolated to the nodes or integration point values moved to the nodes. If there is no integration point coordinate information in the result file then it is not possible to accurately represent results at these integration points.

In general results at integration points are given for non-linear elements, nodal gradient, plastic and creep strain results. If the result file was created with ANSYS version 5.0A or later the interface program will issue a warning if integration point values have been moved to the nodes.

Element-wise Multi-Surface Results

Multiple surface results are interpreted for any results location, surface numbers are allocated to surfaces incrementally in the order that the surfaces are found. For example, for a default ANSYS shell model top and bottom surfaces have results output. These will become surfaces 1 and 2 in a FEMVIEW model. Within FEMVIEW the results for each surface can be accessed using the command `RESULTS RANGE SURFACE surface_number'.

Node-wise Results

Node-wise result output is also requested from the ANSYS program using the 'OUTRES' command in the ANSYS input file. This interface program allocates the FEMVIEW attribute type NODAL to all ANSYS node-wise results.

For a complete list of node-wise results refer to Appendix C where the attribute and component names assigned to the results by this interface program for use within FEMVIEW are also shown.
