· When the material loading is in a cantilever mode, the criteria for material selection change.
· Optimum stiffness now scales as (E /ρ²) and materials with the maximum value of this quantity should be selected.
· Optimum strength scales as (σ_y^2/3/ ρ) , a maximum value of this quantity being looked for.
