Desired Compressor Properties
· The compressor must be light/strong structure.
· Aerodynamic loads will fluctuate with operating conditions and blade/vane interactions are important. Fatigue issues must be considered.
· Temperatures increase through the compressor, and later stages will need to stand high temperatures under tensile loads due to the rotation. Creep may need to be considered.

Materials Selection Issues
· Compressor blades are in tensile loading, and for a light/strong structure, shape independent selection is based on (E/ρ) and (σy/ρ).
· Materials may differ in different sections of the compressor. Titanium may be a good choice for the lower temperature early stages, and nickel alloys for the higher temperature later stages.
