Message from Bala:

Dear Friends

I am planning to run the Philadelphia Marathon on Nov. 20th. This is the first time I am running a marathon and that too for a cause close to my heart. Though I had run 2-3 miles before, running 26.2 miles in one stretch is a totally different ball game. I have been planning to run this for a while now :) and as practice ran a half-marathon this Feb in Austin. I have been training for this marathon regularly since the beginning of summer. My running logs over the course of training are available here.

In the heart of central India, nearly 16 hrs after a tiring journey from Mumbai on bus, boat and foot you reach a village called Bilgaon. After living in darkness for almost 50 years since independence, today Bilgaon also called Bijli Gaon (Light village), generates its own electricity thanks to the efforts of the villagers, local non profit organizations and the Association for India's Development (AID). AID supports this and several other developmental projects related to education, livelihood, natural resources, health and women's empowerment. Please visit www.aidindia.org to know more about AID.

As a volunteer of AID for several years I have had the opportunity to co-ordinate projects, visit project sites and generate awareness about development issues in India. In this marathon, I want to raise funds to support projects like Bilgaon. It is my goal to raise $100 for every mile I run. I hope you'll support AID by making a generous donation.
