JUNGLE JAM #5
February 21, 2004
We may be in trouble tonight because Brown is good. In fact, they may be the best, ever. Never have students from one university been so dedicated to a single goal. Wait, we're talking about basketball? Not protests? Never mind then. Unfortunately, for a school where breaking the norm is the only norm, there seems to be an altogether common result when Brown comes to town. 53 games at Princeton , 52 losses. Not quite as exciting as tree hugging nudists, huh … With that said…We welcome Brown to the Jungle
PRINCETON vs. BROWN SCOUTING REPORT:
In what can be considered the most important game of the season, Princeton takes on the Bears of Brown University, thereby pairing the first and second place Ivy League teams.
Brown enters the game coming off a huge win against Penn at the Palestra. The Bears, who earned their first season sweep over Penn since the 1991 season, remain in second place in the Ivy League standings with a 7-2 league mark, 11-11 overall, while the Quakers dropped to 5-3 in league, 12-9 overall. Brown's last win at the Palestra came on January 11, 1991. Trailing 30-28, Brown went on an 8-0 run to grab its biggest lead of the first half, 36-30 on a layup by senior Jaime Kilburn with 1:06 left in the first half. Brown grabbed its biggest lead of the game, 71-56, on a three-point jumper by Powers with 6:11 left in the game. The Quakers chipped away at the Brown lead and pulled to within one point, 74-73, on a layup by Ibby Jaaber with 46 seconds remaining. Forte connected on two free throws to extend Brown's lead to thee points, 76-73 with 30 seconds left to play.
Princeton squares off against Brown after a comeback win at home against Yale. Princeton (14-7, 7-1) outscored Yale (9-13, 4-5) 42-23 in the second half and 23-4 in a eight-minute stretch spanning halftime, turning a 35-21 deficit into a 44-39 lead on a Wallace layup with 13:09 left in the second half. Then, after Yale scored five straight points to tie the game at 44 two minutes later, Ed Persia hit a three-pointer from the left corner to put Princeton ahead for good and start an 8-0 Princeton run that essentially put the game away.
In the first meeting between these two teams in Rhode Island, Princeton won 64-49.
