Bordeaux has been a flourishing city since Roman times, and today has quarters that capture and preserve its long history. It is located in the southwest of France, about 300 miles south of Paris, on the Garonne River, surrounded by one of the most famous wine growing regions in the world.

The Atlantic coast and the resort towns and sandy beaches of the Arcachon Basin are approximately 25 miles away. Regular train service links Bordeaux with Arcachon.
