The Kurdistan Alliance (Official name: Democratic Patriotic Alliance of Kurdistan) is an organization comprised of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, along with various smaller groups.  Within the recent 2005 elections in Iraq, this group represented a united Kurdish front, a move which allowed it to become the second-largest electorate group.  With a military presence in northern Iraq, the Kurdistan Alliance has a history of military conflict with the Iraqi government; after the first Gulf War, the Kurdistan Democratic Party was among the largest anti-Saddam forces.  While this violence was later turned inwards to a civil war between the Saddam-supported Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Iran-supported Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, both forces joined the Coalition of the Willing to topple Saddam.

The main non-military issue facing the Kurdistan Alliance lies within contesting the 2005 Iraqi election results, which many believe were unduly influenced by higher-ups as well as the American government.  In addition, Kurdistan has long advocated seceding from Iraq, whom it believes it oblivious to Kurdish issues.  Kurdistan also faces the threat of becoming a dictatorship, even as it remains a part of Iraq, as power struggles constantly run through the political parties.  These issues must be addressed by the PICSIM delegation representing the Kurdistan Alliance.
