A Veterans Day observance is planned for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the Princeton University Chapel.
The service, which is free and open to the public, is co-organized by the Spirit of Princeton and Princeton University’s veterans’ community.
Remarks will be delivered by Jason Mangone, executive director of More in Common U.S., a Marine Corps veteran and co-author of “Leaders: Myth and Reality.” Mangone sits on the board of New Politics, which prepares veterans to run for office, and serves the community on the Princeton Little League board and as a volunteer firefighter.
Other speakers from the community include Princeton Mayor Mark Freda and Kam Amirzafari, co-chairs of Spirit of Princeton.
The program will include an invocation by Brittany Longsdorf, the university’s associate dean of Religious Life.
Kenneth Grayson, supervisor in the University electric shop, will sing the national anthem and “America the Beautiful.” Dr. Mary Rorro, psychiatrist for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, will sing an original composition, and a trumpeter will play taps.
The benediction will be offered by Khalil Abdullah, Princeton’s assistant dean for Muslim Life.
Along with Spirit of Princeton, the event is co-sponsored by numerous Princeton University affiliated organizations and offices including: the Vice President for Campus Life; Religious Life; Human Resources; Community and Regional Affairs; the Princeton University Army ROTC; Rutgers-Princeton University Naval ROTC and Air Force ROTC; Alumni and Friends of Princeton University ROTC; Princeton Veterans Alumni Association; Military and Service Veterans Resource Group; and the Princeton Student Veterans Alliance.
