The Structure of Solids

· For Sodium Chloride, the anions (Cl) have an fcc structure with all of the octahedral sites occupied by the cations (Na).
· Zinc Sulfide has an fcc anionic structure and the cations use half of the tetrahedral sites.
· Zinc Sulfide in the Wurtzite form has its anions in an hcp array and the cations fill half of the tetrahedral sites.
· Aluminum Oxide has the oxygen anions in an hcp array and the cations use 2/3 of the octahedral sites.
· Calcium Fluoride has a simple cubic, sc, anion array with the cations filling half of the body centered, cubic sites.
