Jillian Olsen
Class of 2008
Artistic Director
Jillian wanted to have a humorous bio, but then
she got in trouble for not turning hers in on time, and humor created
under stress is rarely successfulÖthus, the traditional style:
Jillian donned her first pair of ballet slippers at age four, although
her real passion remained gymnastics until a series of knee surgeries
tragically ended her career in the gym at age twelve. But Jillian, an
optimist at heart, sees the injuries as a blessingóshe suddenly
had more time to dance. During the past five years she continued
studying jazz, tap, hip-hop, ballet, and acrobatics at Katieís
Dance Studio in the San Francisco Bay Area and modern at The College
Preparatory School. With Katieís Dance Company she performed in
semi-annual recitals, numerous professional shows, and on a cruise ship
and other venues, and taught jazz, tap, and acrobatics to ages four to
fifteen. She also choreographed two student-produced shows at her high
school and performed in musical theater productions with Contra Costa
Civic Theater.
Jillian misses the Katieís Crew, but is so thrilled to have
found a new group of dancerly friends in the amazing and wonderful
BodyHype. Thanks go to mom and dad back in CA, teachers Katie
Maltsberger and Kelsy Hiyakumoto, and all the BodyHypers who have made
her feel so welcome.
