Katie has been studying dance for 17 years, beginning in ballet and then branching out into modern, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, and tap. She began her training at the Center for Dance Education in Clark, NJ, where she worked with such choreographers as Evy Zavolas, Jennifer Innis and Gina Gerrand-Auland. There she had the opportunity to dance as the Lilac Fairy in Sleeping Beauty, Odette in Swan Lake, and Dew Drop Fairy and Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker Suite as well as perform in annual dance concerts and charity events. In the summer of her junior year she was invited to attend Summer Stages Dance Intensive at Concorde Academy in Concorde, Massachusetts. There she learned from the likes of David Dorfman, Neil Greenberg and Richard Colton. She also performed original modern and contemporary ballet pieces by Alissa Cardone, Ingrid Schatz and David Parker and the Bang Group. Katie has also spread her love of dance to musical theater, performing in productions of Footloose, Les Miserables, West Side Story, 42nd Street, Miss Saigon and Thoroughly Modern Millie. She has been employed as a musical theater choreographer for 8 years, and for over 10 different shows including Anything Goes, The Wizard of Oz, Annie Jr., Once Upon a Mattress, Aladdin and Bye, Bye Birdie. She continues to pursue her love for musical theater in the Triangle Club. On campus, Katie is very involved in the dance department, working towards a certificate in dance. She has performed in three Spring Dance Festivals, in original pieces created by Christopher Williams and Rebecca Lazier(2007), soloist in Mark Morris, Susan Marshall (2008) and Zvi Gotheiner and Cherlyn Lavignino (2009). She also performed as a dancer in the world premiere of Boris Godunov and in three senior dance theater productions. Katie has been a member of BodyHype since the fall semester of her freshman year, served as Assistant Artistic Director her sophomore-to-junior term and is proud to be the current Artistic Director along side Kelsey Berry. In her spare time she hopes to earn a degree in cultural anthropology with a certificate in East Asian studies.
