Composition Colloquium with Tian Zhou
The Composition Colloquium presents a talk by composer Tian Zhou.
Biography
Chinese-American composer Zhou Tian (JOH TEE-en) blends cultural influences into music. His Concerto for Orchestra earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best Contemporary Classical Composition, making him the first Chinese-born and second Asian composer, following Tōru Takemitsu, so honored. Noted performances have come from Manfred Honeck, Yuja Wang, The New York Philharmonic, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and “The President’s Own” Marine Band. The Wall Street Journal states his works “accomplish two important things: They remind us of how we got from there to here, and they refine that history by paying belated tribute to contributors who might otherwise be forgotten.”
