Evonne Levy - Bernini's Bronzes Project
In this lunch seminar, Evonne Levy, Distinguished Professor of Early Modern Art at the University of Toronto Department of Art History, will discuss her project “The Technical Study of Bernini’s Bronzes: Art History, Conservation, and Material Science“.
New and more portable tools for the imaging of works of art have opened up new possibilities in the “technical study of art.” The Canadian-led collaborative project “The Technical Study of Bernini’s Bronzes” is a unicorn of a technical study because of its comprehensive scope, use of imaging tools, and material analysis. This talk will take you along on some of our technical study trips and explore what kinds of art historical questions can be posed and answered or reframed by technical studies.
