Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of King's Death and the Centenary of Solzhenitsyn's Birth.

Daniel J. Mahoney holds the Augustine Chair in Distinguished Scholarship at Assumption College. In 1999, Professor Mahoney was the recipient of the prestigious Prix Raymond Aron. He is executive editor of Perspectives on Political Science and book review editor for Society magazine. A renowned expert on French political philosophy, his books also include the critically acclaimed Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn: The Ascent from Ideology (Rowman & Littlefield, 2001), The Solzhenitsyn Reader (co-edited with Edward E. Ericson, Jr., Intercollegiate Studies Institute, 2009) and The Other Solzhenitsyn (St. Augustine’s, 2014). His latest book, The Idol of Our Age: How the Religion of Humanity Subverts Christianity was published by Encounter Books on December 3, 2018. He received his B.A. from the College of Holy Cross and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Catholic University of America in Political Science.

Eugene F. Rivers III, a former gang member from Philadelphia, was educated at Harvard College where he studied philosophy and history of science. He is the Founder and Director of the Seymour Institute for Black Church and Policy Studies and is a widely published writer and community activist who has lectured internationally. He also advised both Bush administrations and the Clinton administration on their faith-based initiatives and in the foreign policy arena regarding the AIDS crisis in Africa. He was the subject of a Newsweek cover story in 1998 and was prominently featured in a second cover story on the AIDS crisis in Africa two years later. Gustav Niebuhr in the New York Times identified Rivers as the Bush administration’s point man on faith-based and community service. He has provided commentary for ABC (Prime Time, Nightline, and ABC Morning News), NBC, MSNBC (Hardball, Morning Joe), CBS (CBS Evening News, Sixty Minutes II), PBS (Charlie Rose, Bill Moyers Show), and Fox News (The O’Reilly Factor). He lives and works among the poor in inner-city Boston with his wife, Dr. Jacqueline C. Rivers.

*David L. Tubbs 01** is Associate Professor of Politics at The King’s College in New York City, where he has been teaching since 2005. He was previously Visiting Faculty Fellow at Irkutsk State University in Irkutsk, Russia, and the W.H. Brady Visiting Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. In 2017-18, he was the James Madison Program’s Ann and Herbert W. Vaughan Visiting Fellow. His scholarship focuses on topics in constitutional law, political theory, and public policy. He is the author of Freedom’s Orphans (Princeton University Press, 2007), and several scholarly articles, including a 2018 article written with Jacqueline S. Smith in the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy on the regulation of pornography under the Constitution. His shorter articles and reviews have appeared in publications such as the Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, First Things, City Journal, The New Criterion, The American Spectator, and Public Discourse. He earned his Ph.D. in the Department of Politics at Princeton in 2001.
