Dr. BASSEM YOUSSEF: The Joke is Mightier than the Sword
Dr. BASSEM YOUSSEF will be speaking on Friday April 27, 2018 at 8:00 PM in Matthews Theatre at McCarter Theatre Center at Princeton University. Doors open at 7:30 pm. BASSEM YOUSSEF, popularly known as the Jon Stewart of the Arab World, was the host of the TV show Al Bernameg - a political satire program based in Cairo, Egypt; and the first of its kind in the Middle East. Al Bernameg quickly became the most watched show across the region with 30+ million weekly viewers. In 2013, Bassem was named one of Time Magazine¿s Most Influential people. He was awarded the International Press Freedom Award by the Committee to Protect Journalists and was chosen as one of 2013¿s ¿Leading Global Thinkers¿ by Foreign Policy Magazine. Youssef¿s most recent projects include Democracy Handbook; a ten-part series exploring topics of democracy, the launch of his new book, Revolution for Dummies: Laughing Through the Arab Spring in March of 2017 and the release of Tickling Giants, a documentary film about Bassem Youssef directed by Sara Taksler, in April of 2016.
