Note from the organizer:Fintan O'Toole Lecture: "Bernard Shaw and the Uses of Celebrity"
Renowned Irish columnist and literary scholar, Fintan O'Toole, will present a lecture on Nobel Prize and Academy Award winner George Bernard Shaw, entitled "Bernard Shaw and the Uses of Celebrity." The event, sponsored by Princeton University Library and the Friends of the Princeton University Library, will be free and open to the public. George Bernard Shaw is perhaps best known as the author of Pygmalion, his most popular and most frequently performed play.
O'Toole's new book, Judging Shaw, was recently published by the Royal Irish Academy. Critics hail, "O'Toole brings [Shaw] to life in such a way that is as entertaining as it is enlightening."
O'Toole, one of Ireland's leading public intellectuals, is the Leonard L. Milberg lecturer in Irish Letters at Princeton University. This spring semester he is a visiting lecturer in Theater and Acting Chair for the Irish Studies.
