Officials on both sides blame their opponents: the Ukrainian government accuses Russia of having triggered the war by annexing the Crimea, then secretly sending thousands of troops, mercenaries, and weapons across the border as well as recruiting, funding, and training Ukrainians to overthrow the government. Cybertrolls have also been deployed to shape the outcome of this ¿non-conventional war.¿ Russia denies the charges, claiming that NATO has infiltrated Ukraine and marshaled forces against Russia in a revival of the Cold War conflict of East versus West. Crying "fake news," the Russian government insists that Ukrainian propagandists have systematically distorted the reporting of events in eastern Ukraine and the Crimea. Can we discover the truth of these claims?
