Unruly Sounds
Unruly Sounds Music Festival is a one-day extravaganza of music from the Department's composition program in addition to local artists. From 11 am to 5 pm (and possibly beyond), families, wanderers, dancers, children, and folks out for a Sunday stroll are free to stop by Hinds Plaza. One can sit and muse, perhaps break into a little jig, leave for a cup of Small World’s Grumpy Monkey, and come back with a treasure from the Princeton Record Exchange. The atmosphere is casually festive with room to breathe and catch up with friends.
The fourth year showcases favorites such as electro-acoustic country purveyors, Owen Lake and the Tragic Loves, the groove-filled Matt Trowbridge, and the unapologetically gifted duo, Damsel. Returning for a second year will be the dazzling Arx Duo, Chris Douthitt and the Anaglyphs, the ever-soulful Bora Yoon, and many more. A highlight of this year’s Unruly Sounds will be a special performance of Arone Dyer’s Dronechoir, partnering performers of a multitude of backgrounds.
Unruly Sounds is the brainchild of Mobius Percussion’s Mika Godbole. Sponsored by Princeton Sound Kitchen, Princeton Public Library, Princeton Record Exchange, and Small World Coffee, the festival seeks to introduce the general public to the latest creative projects from the Princeton graduate composition program. This live music experience is conducive to creating an atmosphere that allows for sounds to be experienced without being encumbered by the inherent formalities in most traditional concert settings.
