Valerie B. Jarrett, Former Senior Advisor to President Obama

Ticket holders must arrive prior to or at 4:30 p.m. — There will be a wait line to fill any empty seats at 4:30 p.m. Overflow seating and a livestream will be available in 001, 002 and 016 Robertson Hall.Valerie Jarrett is former senior advisor to President Barack Obama and former chair of the White House Council on Women and Girls. Currently she serves as a senior advisor to the Obama Foundation and president of the board of When We All Vote, a nonpartisan not-for-profit focused on voter registration. As the longest serving senior advisor to President Obama, she oversaw the Offices of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs and chaired the White House Council on Women and Girls.  Jarrett led the Obama administration’s efforts to expand and strengthen access to the middle class and boost American businesses and the economy. She also oversaw the administration’s advocacy for workplace policies that empower working families, including equal pay, raising the minimum wage, paid leave, paid sick days, workplace flexibility and affordable childcare, and led the campaigns to reform the criminal justice system, end sexual assault and reduce gun violence. Jarrett has a background in the public and private sectors. She served as the chief executive officer of The Habitat Company in Chicago, chairman of the Chicago Transit Board, commissioner of planning and development and deputy chief of staff for Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. Jarrett will be joined in conversation by Brandice Canes-Wrone, vice dean of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Donald E. Stokes Professor of Public and International Affairs, and director of Princeton’s Center for the Study of Democratic Politics.
