The Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Students is excited to present the next event in the FOCUS Speaker Series, entitled “Group Attitudes, Identities, and U.S. Politics.” The panel discussion will feature professors of political science from three top universities: LaFleur Stephens-Dougan of Princeton University, Ashley E. Jardina of Duke University, and Davin Phoenix of the University of California, Irvine. Professors Stephens-Dougan, Jardina, and Phoenix will discuss their new books Race to the Bottom: How Racial Appeals Work in American Politics, White Identity Politics, and The Anger Gap: How Race Shapes Emotion in Politics, respectively.

This panel will provide a unique opportunity for members of the Princeton community to hear expert analysis in the immediate aftermath of the 2020 election. The panelists will discuss demographic, cultural, and economic trends in the United States, with a special emphasis on the role of race and racism within American politics. As the nation makes such a momentous choice and settles into a new reality, this event will offer a glimpse into the history and the future of racial politics.

“Group Attitudes, Identities, and U.S. Politics” will take place over Zoom at 7:30 PM ET on November 24th, 2020. The event is free and open to the public, and the registration can be found here.
