Reading: Psalm 98 (Read by Thomas Hontz ’22)

O sing to God a new song, for God has done marvelous things. God’s right hand and holy arm have gained victory. God has made known this victory; God has revealed God’s vindication in the sight of the nations. God has remembered God’s steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the victory of our God. Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises. Sing praises to God with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody. With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the Sovereign, our God. Let the sea roar, and all that fills it; the world and those who live in it. Let the floods clap their hands; let the hills sing together for joy at the presence of God, who is coming to judge the earth. God will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.

Anthem: I Got Me Flowers by Daniel Burton (b. 1944) with Chapel Choir and Alumni, April 28, 2020; Organizer and Music Producer Mel Shu ’19; Video Producer Catherine Lu ’17, and Production Assistants Abigail Kelly ’15 and Ari Mytelka ‘17

Reading: John 15:9-17

As God has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept God’s commandments and abide in God’s love. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from God. You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that God will give you whatever you ask in my name. I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another.

Sermon: "Joy Completed" by Nathaniel J. Hontz ’21

Hymn: When In Our Music God is Glorified (Engelberg)

When in our music God is glorified, and adoration leaves no room for pride, it is as though the whole creation cried: Alleluia!

How often, making music, we have found a new dimension in the world of sound, as worship moved us to a more profound: Alleluia!

Let every instrument be tuned for praise! Let all rejoice who have a voice to raise! And may God give us faith to sing always: Alleluia!

Pastoral Prayer

Lord’s Prayer: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer for Princeton: O Eternal God, the source of life and light for all peoples, we pray you would endow this University with your grace and wisdom: give inspiration and understanding to those who teach and to those who learn; grant vision to its trustees and administrators; to all who work here and to all who bear her name give your guiding Spirit of sacrificial courage and loving service. Amen.

Anthem: The Prayer of Cardinal Newman by James Whitbourn (b. 1963)
