Intro to 3D Modeling & Printing
This workshop will be split into two segments: 3D modeling & 3D printing:
10:00am - 12:00pm 3D Modeling in the DLL The first segment will take place in the Digital Learning Lab. Here, we will go over the basics of modeling in Rhino3d. After a quick follow-along example and some tips and tricks, you will have time to create your own model (printed in part 2).
12:00 - 12:30pm Catered lunch
12:30 - 1:30pm Printing in the PUL Makerspace In the second segment, we will explore the PUL Makerspace in the Lewis Science Library and learn about the process of 3D printing (specifically, how to go from a Rhino model -> a printed object). Everyone will then get a chance to set up their print (although the actual printing of the 3D models will take place over the following days).
A message from the workshop leader, Mark Skepasts (Princeton '22): "Over the past three years, I have become very excited and interested in the world of 3D modeling, computational design, and autonomous fabrication. I hope to introduce you to these topics and share my passions in this Saturday session. Moreover, I hope to inspire you to explore the wonderful spaces on campus where you use your creativity to create, model and print whatever comes to mind. A huge thank you to the Makerspace (Ariel Ackerly) and the DLL (Alex Hollinghead) for their help with this event. I am looking to modeling/printing with you all!"
This event is open to Princeton University students, faculty, and staff. Lunch will be provided. Please register in advance.
