Intro to qualitative research methods
This workshop offers an overview of qualitative research methods. It discusses the difference between qualitative and quantitative research, the different types of qualitative research (including ethnography, interviews, and archival research), and techniques for data collection and analysis. Specifically, it goes over methods and techniques for: operationalizing concepts of interest; sample selection; recruitment; gaining entree to field sites; interviewing participants; and, transcribing and coding data.
Students who attend the workshop will have the opportunity to practice some of these techniques in the session and ask methodological questions about their own research projects.
