"Analyzing Your Digital Trace" Workshop (Aliya Kanji Hall, B102 Seminar Room)
In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to download and analyze their own Google search traces, or use sample data if they decide not to or run into technical problems. We will use an existing script to clean, extract, and summarize variables from this search data to explore how search query topics change over time. Overall, this workshop will introduce participants to the steps needed to collect, analyze, and make sense of digital trace data for research purposes, while also considering ethics and appropriate analytical approaches. The only prerequisites are an active Google account and a laptop computer. No programming knowledge is needed to participate.
