2024 DuBois Intellectual Series: “The Theft of the Congo: Riches to Rice” Black History is International History*

The DuBois Intellectual Series: “The Theft of the Congo: Riches to Rice,” is one of many BSU
hosted events that will consist of a more serious and formal discussion of Black issues. This
event will center the current and historic exploitation and abuse of the people of the Congo. This
event is particularly pertinent in the context of the increasingly concerning crises of hunger,
violence, and poverty in the nation. We will have an expert on the ongoing humanitarian crisis
and history of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Josaphat Musamba. With the attendance of
Black faculty, staff, and students we will have structured meaningful discussions, spread
awareness across the Black diaspora and further build solidarity and unity within the Princeton
community. In addition, we not only be able to give Black students and staff on campus an
opportunity, but the larger Princeton community a chance to connect and discuss the issues faced
by Congolese people in a more accessible format.
