Malcolm X Meets the Other Black Muslims: The World of Orthodox Islam in the US Before and After Malcolm
This talk will explore Malcolm X’s relationship to the cultural
world of Black orthodox Muslims who lived in and around
New York City between the 1920s - 1960s, as well as the even
larger Black orthodox Muslim communities that emerged
after Malcolm’s assassination who sought to advance his
legacy in new ways while simultaneously discovering and
engaging various ideologies and communities from Africa
and the Muslim world.
