Syria from Bashar to Sharaa Conversation with Gareth Browne
Gareth Browne is the Middle East Correspondent for The Economist, based in Beirut. His work focuses on Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq, and he was among the first journalists to enter Damascus following the collapse of the Assad regime on December 8, 2024. Prior to this, he was the West Bank and Gaza correspondent for Agence France-Presse, based in Ramallah. He is currently working on a book about Syria’s intelligence services under the Assad regime and is also the host of the award-winning Economist podcast The Hunt for Austin Tice.
