The Hooding and Recognition Ceremony is a special recognition for graduates receiving a final master's degree or a Ph.D. Presided over by the University President and Dean of the Graduate School, the program lasts for approximately 2.5 hours. All candidates are individually recognized, and all faculty and students wear academic regalia. Ph.D. candidates may receive their hood from a faculty member (usually their adviser), or from the chief marshal.
University programs and activities are open to all eligible participants without regard to identity or other protected characteristics. Sponsorship of an event does not constitute institutional endorsement of external speakers or views presented.
