Digital Divides in the Age of AI: Power, Inequality, and the Fight Against Algorithmic Injustice

This event provides students with an opportunity to discuss the macro-scale impact of AI algorithms on minority demographics. Systemic inequalities baked into society are reproduced in AI, and target specifically Black and Brown communities across the United States. Furthermore, in the midst of Big Tech’s push toward GenAI by 2030 and the eager co-opting of existing AI algorithms by industry and government, we hope to help contextualize and inform attendees on the racialized deployment of AI to discriminate, surveil, and oppress marginalized communities on the ground.
