In this lecture, Rabbi Elhanan Miller will discuss People of the Book, three intersecting online projects that he has spearheaded over the last decade. The first is called “Ask the Rabbi,” an Arabic platform about Judaism and its relationship to Islam. The second, “Close Neighbors,” is a set of conversations, in Arabic, with Muslim Arabs on religious and political issues. The third is “Jews of the Middle East,” a series of oral histories with Arabic-speaking Jews about their lives living in Arab states before emigrating to Israel, Europe, or the United States. Miller will share his story, his motivations and goals, the challenges he has faced, and what he has learned from these three projects.

He has served as the Arab Affairs Correspondent for The Times of Israel and as rabbi of the Jewish community in Canberra, Australia. Born in Jerusalem, Miller completed his BA and MA degrees in Middle East History and Islamic Studies at the Hebrew University, and rabbinic ordination at Beit Midrash Harel. Formerly an Atkin Fellow at Kings College, London, and the Richard Beeston scholar at the London Times, Miller regularly comments on Israeli politics on BBC Arabic, Sky News Arabia, DW Arabic, and Israel’s Arabic public broadcaster Kan. His opinion articles have appeared in the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.
