Event details
Sandeep Das, Tabla & Friends (Princeton University Concerts)
Shastriya Sangeet, the classical music of the Indian subcontinent, is a vibrant, living tradition known for its emotional depth, rich melodies, and intricate rhythms. In this intimate onstage setting—where you sit alongside the musicians amidst a mesmerizing dialogue of exotic instruments—the program explores the Navarasa, the nine essential moods in Indian art, from heroism to romance and beyond, alongside rhythmic works inspired by a creative dialogue with the Princeton University Department of Mathematics. Curated by Grammy Award–winning tabla virtuoso Sandeep Das following his jaw-dropping debut as part of the DoosTrio in 2025, alongside Jay Gandhi on bansuri flute and Abhik Mukherjee on sitar, the evening offers an immersive journey into a musical tradition that has been shaped over four millennia and has also inspired composers such as Olivier Messiaen, Philip Glass, and John Cage.
