Michael McKay, who was named vice president for facilities in July, has announced the reorganization of his department with the creation of two general managers who will report to him.
Chad Klaus, a member of the facilities staff since 2000, has been promoted to general manager for services. A search is being conducted for a general manager for plant and capital projects.
"This is the first step in organizing facilities to meet the challenges ahead of us, including the management of almost a billion dollars of capital projects over the next five to seven years as well as the need to maintain and improve upon the gains we've made in addressing our level of customer service," said McKay. "The intention is to provide the appropriate leadership for these two different types of operations but to maintain the kind of close cooperation we've all enjoyed among the various departments in facilities."
Klaus will manage the housing, dining services and building services departments as well as oversee the Facilities Customer Service Group. In addition to his other responsibilities, Klaus is charged with developing and maintaining a high level of customer service across all facilities departments. The other general manager will supervise the engineering, maintenance and physical planning departments.
Klaus came to Princeton in 2000 as director of customer service and quality improvement in the facilities department. He helped establish the Facilities Customer Service Center, a one-stop concept for requesting services. He also initiated customer and employee feedback mechanisms and worked to strengthen collaboration between departments.
"Chad has been a tremendous asset to the department over the past three years, and I am excited that he will be in a position to continue contributing to our success as we move ahead," McKay said.
A graduate of Oregon State University, Klaus previously worked in the facilities department there for nine years, ultimately serving as assistant director for marketing and customer service.
McKay said he hopes to conclude the search for the general manager for plant and capital projects in early fall.
