'Ladies First' symposium focuses on women in hip-hop

Media executives, journalists, artists and students will participate in a symposium titled "Ladies First: A Glance at Women in Hip-Hop" from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 27, in various locations on campus. The event is open to the public, but paid registration is required for non-University attendees.

Princeton theologian and activist Cornel West will share a stage with rapper Talib Kweli, U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters of California, and some of the country's leading thinkers in the field of hip-hop music for the "Princeton Hip-Hop Symposium" on Friday, Oct. 6, at Princeton University. The Princeton student group "Hip-Hop: Art & Life," in cooperation with the national Center for American Progress, will present a panel discussion at 2 p.m. in McCosh 50 focusing on the role of hip-hop in post-9/11 America.      

Symposium focuses on defining the black experience .

A symposium designed to highlight important developments and achievements of black people in America will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Friend Center on the Princeton University campus. The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required by Thursday, Feb. 19. The event, titled "From the Middle Passage to the Oval Office: Defining the Black Experience," will feature talks on a range of issues facing the black community.

A series of events honors the 50th anniversary of the Third World Center, now the Carl A. Fields Center, and the Women*s Center, now the Gender + Sexuality Resource Center, for their legacy of community, identity, collaboration and inclusion at Princeton.

Symposium focuses on Latinos in the United States .

A symposium to initiate discussion about the state of the Latino community in America will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 10, at the Friend Center on the Princeton University campus. The event is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required.  

Week of events focuses on Hinduism in 21st century America .

A weeklong celebration of Hindu culture and religion featuring lectures, performances and yoga demonstrations will be held Saturday to Sunday, March 28-April 5, at various campus locations. The celebration is free and open to the public, but advance registration is required to attend some of the events.
