The Nash Ensemble of London will perform at Princeton on April 3, and one of the selections they will play is by Viet Cuong, a graduate student composer. Watch Cuong talk about what inspired his original composition, "Trains of Thought."

What does composing music look like? At Princeton, composition is taught at the undergraduate and graduate level. In this story, four members of the Department of Music describe their creative process, the surprising upside of learning composition at a liberal arts university versus a conservatory, and the challenges and rewards of developing and performing new work. Branker hits high note in leading jazz program .

Anthony D.J. Branker, director of Princeton’s jazz program, spent the fall 2005 semester helping the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre develop its jazz studies curriculum. For Branker, a 1980 Princeton graduate, the challenge hearkened back to his own return to campus in 1989.

The musicians of Sō Percussion, the Edward T. Cone Performers-in-Residence at Princeton, encourage students to take risks and compose their own music, resulting in a variety of sounds, including full compositions on empty glass bottles.

Aubert and Treuting chosen as first Fellows in the Creative and Performing Arts .

Graphic designer Danielle Aubert and percussionist/composer Jason Treuting will come to Princeton University in the fall to begin two years of teaching and collaboration as the first Fellows in the Creative and Performing Arts.

The Princeton Sound Kitchen presents a wide variety of concerts and events of new music, serving the graduate student and faculty composers of the composition program at Department of Music at Princeton University.
