FACULTY AWARD: Okeke-Agulu wins Herskovits Award from African Studies Association

Chika Okeke-Agulu, associate professor of art and archaeology and African American studies, has been awarded the Melville J. Herskovits Award from the African Studies Association (ASA) for his book "Postcolonial Modernism: Art and Decolonization in 20th-Century Nigeria" (Duke University Press, 2015). The award is given to the author of the most important scholarly work in African studies published in English during the preceding year. The ASA, established in 1952, encourages the production and dissemination of knowledge about Africa's political, economic, social, cultural, artistic, scientific and environmental landscape. Okeke-Agulu accepted the award on Dec. 3 in Washington, D.C.

Simon Gikandi, the Robert Schirmer Professor of English and chair of the Department of English, and Chika Okeke-Agulu, professor of art and archaeology and African American studies and director of the Program in African Studies, have been elected corresponding fellows of the British Academy.

Hal Foster and Esther Schor receive Behrman Award for the humanities .

Princeton professors Hal Foster and Esther Schor have received the University’s Howard T. Behrman Award for Distinguished Achievement in the Humanities.

Board approves 17 appointments to Princeton faculty .

The Princeton University Board of Trustees has approved the appointments of 17 faculty members, including six full professors and 11 assistant professors. 

Four faculty, alumna Sotomayor elected members of American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

Princeton faculty members Simon Gikandi, Daniel Heller-Roazen, Tali Mendelberg and Jacqueline Stone, and 1976 alumna Sonia Sotomayor have been named members of the Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Appiah and Barkan receive Behrman Award .

Professors Kwame Anthony Appiah and Leonard Barkan have received Princeton's Howard T. Behrman Award for Distinguished Achievement in the Humanities.
