Eisgruber installation ceremony set for Sept. 22

The trustees of Princeton University have scheduled a ceremony to publicly install Christopher L. Eisgruber as president at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The ceremony will be held on the lawn in front of historic Nassau Hall. Eisgruber is only the 20th president of the University since its founding in 1746. He took office Monday, succeeding Shirley M. Tilghman, who has returned to the faculty.

After the ceremony, a reception open to the public will be held on campus. This will be followed at 3:30 p.m. by a concert for members of the University community. Further details about the day's events will be announced at a later date.

A renowned constitutional scholar, Eisgruber served as a member of the Princeton faculty for 12 years, including nine years as provost, before being named president.

Eisgruber, who grew up in Indiana and Oregon, received his A.B. in physics from Princeton in 1983, graduating magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He then earned an M.Litt in politics at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, and a J.D. cum laude at the University of Chicago Law School.
