UPDATE: Gas leak stopped, Forrestal Campus buildings reopen

A backhoe ruptured a natural gas line at a construction site on the Forrestal Campus of Princeton University shortly before 1 p.m. today. The gas line has been shut off, and PSE&G crews will repair the line.

People working in nearby buildings were evacuated for about half an hour before being let back in.

The Forrestal Campus is a few miles away from the main campus, which was not affected.

Some Princeton University campus buildings are being evacuated as a precaution after workers in the vicinity of William and Charlton streets ruptured a gas line this afternoon, according to the Department of Public Safety. Pedestrians should avoid the area until further notice.

Forbes College evacuated briefly for gas leak in kitchen .

About 30 people were evacuated Thursday from the main building at Forbes College after an employee reported smelling the odor associated with natural gas. A leak in the dining hall kitchen was detected in a valve leading to a stove. The gas was shut off, the building was venilated and people were allowed back inside about 50 minutes later.

UPDATE: E-Quad reopens after gas leak prompts evacuation .

An alarm indicating a gas leak in a laboratory clean room prompted an hour-long evacuation of the Princeton University School of Engineering and Applied Science today. The alarm was triggered at 9:17 a.m. Emergency protection systems worked as expected, shutting down the gas supply. Once the area was deemed safe, protection systems were reset and the E-Quad buildings reopened about 10:20 a.m.
