UPDATE: Gas leak disrupts traffic on Washington Road near Frist Campus Center

Motorists and pedestrians were diverted off Washington Road between Ivy Lane and Prospect Avenue for a short time Wednesday mornging after a natural gas leak was reported near Frist Campus Center at about 8:45 a.m.

Washington Road was reopened about an hour later, although PSE&G workers remained in the area to cap the leak.

The Princeton Fire Department, Princeton Police Department and Princeton University Public Safety responded. No buildings were evacuated, and no service was interrupted to any campus buildings.

Routes to campus, residents affected by storm -- UPDATED 9:30 P.M. .

Because of severe storms that moved through the area Monday, Aug. 16, Faculty Road between Washington Road and Harrison Street remains closed, and is expected to be closed throughout the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 17. Faculty, staff and students that typically arrive on campus via Faculty Road and Washington Road should plan alternate routes due to downed tree limbs and power lines. Alexander Road is open, and Washington Road is accessible via Nassau Street.

Campus residents displaced by storms being sheltered in Frist .

Public Safety is assisting residents of the Butler Apartments who were affected by the severe thunderstorms that moved through the area shortly before 5 p.m. Aug. 16 by establishing a shelter in the Frist Multipurpose Room. Cots and toiletries are available, and Dining Services is making food and beverages available to Butler residents who were not allowed to return to their homes.

UPDATE: Gas leak capped at Lawrence Apartments Building 10 .

About 30 people were evacuated from Building 10 of the Lawrence Apartments for a little more than an hour this morning because gas leaked from a dryer. The leak was reported about 8:35 a.m. The leak was stopped and residents were allowed back inside about 9:45 a.m.

Buildings cleared after gas leak capped .

A backhoe struck a gas line south of the University's McCosh Health Center shortly before 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, prompting an evacuation of about 500 people from 11 buildings in the immediate area. 

Construction site cleared after gas leak capped .

A backhoe struck a gas line at the Lakeside graduate housing construction site at about 8:06 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 15. Construction workers in the area were evacuated. There were no injuries.

Fire extinguished at Princeton's Frist Campus Center .

Firefighters were called to the Frist Campus Center at Princeton University early Saturday morning, Feb. 24, and put out a fire in the basement.

UPDATE: Lawrence Apartments building cleared for occupation .
