Trustees approve three faculty promotions

Three faculty members have been promoted effective July 1, 2017, unless otherwise noted.

Professor

Erika Lorraine Milam, history; Chika Okeke-Agulu, art and archaeology.

Assistant professor

Can Urgun, economics, effective Feb. 1, 2018.

Chika Okeke-Agulu, associate professor of art and archaeology and African American studies, has been awarded the Melville J. Herskovits Award from the African Studies Association (ASA) for his book "Postcolonial Modernism: Art and Decolonization in 20th-Century Nigeria" (Duke University Press, 2015). The award is given to the author of the most important scholarly work in African studies published in English during the preceding year.

Simon Gikandi and Chika Okeke-Agulu recognized by British Academy for their contribution to the humanities .

Simon Gikandi, the Robert Schirmer Professor of English and chair of the Department of English, and Chika Okeke-Agulu, professor of art and archaeology and African American studies and director of the Program in African Studies, have been elected corresponding fellows of the British Academy.

Committee seeks input on permanent marker of Wilson's legacy .

A committee to establish a marker at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs that "educates the campus community and others about the positive and negative dimensions of Wilson's legacy" welcomes input from Princeton students, alumni, faculty and staff through a new website. The site encourages people to comment on the form of the marker as well as what part or parts of Wilson's legacy it should emphasize. Those interested in sharing their thoughts with the committee should complete the brief survey, which will remain open through Jan. 31.

Artist Walter Hood commissioned for Scudder Plaza installation on Woodrow Wilson's legacy .

A new installation about Woodrow Wilson’s legacy by acclaimed artist Walter Hood has been commissioned to be placed on Scudder Plaza beside Robertson Hall, home of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
