Princeton conference celebrates Langston Hughes, poet and 'champion of black America' .

A conference at Princeton University Nov. 10-11 marked the 50th anniversary of poet Langston Hughes' death with panels, performances and a keynote address by author Elizabeth Alexander.

Wallace Best

Long way home: Best finds success in studying religious roots .

Trained as a historian and working in religion, Wallace Best fits the interdisciplinary nature of the Center for African American Studies. Since arriving at Princeton in 2007 from Harvard Divinity School, he has taught courses on spiritual narratives by black women, religions of the Americas and African American religious history, among others. He also has organized a lecture series on black gospel music. This semester he is teaching a course on the Nation of Islam and serving as the director of graduate studies in the religion department, as well as advising undergraduates.

Princeton Preview welcomes admitted students, families .

More than 2,000 people are expected to visit campus this month for Princeton Preview, as newly admitted students to the Class of 2018 and their families arrive to sample the University's academic, residential and social offerings. The annual hosting program will be held Thursday, April 10, and Monday, April 28.

Seeking the magic of poetry .

Like many of her students, Tracy K. Smith started writing poetry in earnest as an undergraduate. Now a fast-rising star in American poetry, she is leading intensive workshops at Princeton — knowing from her own experience how important it is to inspire students as they develop as writers.

Four Rooms

'Four Rooms Waking' weaves tales of war and liberation, Jan. 11-14 .

Tales of war and liberation from four countries are the focus of "Four Rooms Waking," a senior thesis production presented by the Program in Theater and Dance at 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, Jan. 11-14, at the Matthews Acting Studio, 185 Nassau St.
