Naturalist Cabot to speak on Ireland's national heritage

Irish naturalist and writer David Cabot will give a lecture titled "The National Heritage of Ireland" at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, in the Stewart Theater at the Lewis Center for the Arts at 185 Nassau St.

Distinguished Irish actors, theater directors and other luminaries well known for their award-winning roles on stage and screen will gather at Princeton University Oct. 13-15 for discussions, readings and performances highlighting the Players & Painted Stage Symposium. An aged manuscript of a classic Irish play, long thought lost even by the renowned playwright who wrote it, has made its way to Princeton University as the gem of a momentous collection of Irish theater donated by 1953 alumnus Leonard L. Milberg. The unpublished play "The Cooing of Doves" by Sean O'Casey is one of more than 1,000 plays, photographs, playbills and other works documenting the past 160 years of Irish theater, all given to the University in honor of poet and professor Paul Muldoon.

Global Seminars bring history, culture to life .

From performance styles in Ireland and Japan to political and social evolutions in Turkey, Italy, Poland and Germany, dozens of Princeton students received a firsthand education about an array of international issues this summer. Through five Global Seminars offered by the Princeton Institute for International and Regional Studies, 73 Princeton undergraduates traveled abroad to live and learn in the country and city at the heart of each seminar's subject matter.

A unique exhibition of sculptures, photo collages and site-specific installations has been created by Princeton University Dean of the Faculty David Dobkin, a self-identified amateur artist who collects and creatively repurposes a vast array of things from daily life. The exhibition, presented by the Lewis Center for the Arts and titled "Myself, I Think We Should Keep Collecting Titles," is on display through Oct. 4 at the Lucas Gallery at 185 Nassau St.
